AC Milan Reaches Agreement with Krzysztof Piatek for €35 million

This past week on January  29th AC Milan reached an agreement to acquire Krzysztof Piatek a 23 year old polish striker from Genoa for 5 years and €35 million. He has scored 13 goals in 19 Serie A games having a terrific season thus far. Piatek is coming in at a crucial time since he will be replacing Gonzalo Higuain who completed a deal that sends him from AC Milan to Chelsea. Higuain has had a disappointing season so far with only 6 goals so far therefore for the remainder of the season he is being loaned to Chelsea. Piatek has already been an amazing acquisition for AC Milan by scoring 2 goals in his first AC Milan start against Napoli. It will be interesting to see how far Piatek will be able to help AC Milan in Serie A competition.

  1. I was super happy with this signing though very sad to see Higuain leave. I am a huge AC Milan supporter so very happy to see this blog post. Higuain is very under appreciated. He's won loads of trophies with Juventus and Real Madrid and people forget how good he is. I am happy with Piatek. So far in the first game he played in he scored two brilliant goals. He reminds me a lot like Shevchenko. Maybe its a positive sign to 2007 when we last won the Champions League... we still have a ways to go. - Zach

    1. Hi Zach, it is interesting to see your viewpoint since you are a supporter of AC Milan. I think Higuaín is a great player, but I feel this was necessary since he is getting older, and Krzysztof is very young at only the age of 23. It’s awesome to see that he’s already making an immediate impact with the club scoring 2 goals. We’ll have to see how he does as the season progresses.

  2. This a phenomenal acquisition for AC Milan. They have been getting dominated by Juventus and this could potentially be a step in the write direction. I fear that they may have over paid for Krysztof, but they have been longing to return to the top of their league, where they were for so long. It is obviously not comparable to the blockbuster deals that Juventus has made over the last year or two, but I think we are finally starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

    1. Hi Caity, Yes I agree that AC Milan needed to make acquisitions in order for them to compete with the rest of the league since Juventus will be the favorite for the next years to come. I didn’t know too much about Krzysztof before this transfer, and I too was skeptical if they overpaid, but then I saw he scored two goals in his first game, and that shut me up.

  3. I think this was a win/win for AC Milan. With Higuain not playing as well (and they are essentially getting paid for that) as usual and Piatek playing at peak performance it seems as though this worked in Milan's favor. I'm interested to see how the rest of the season will turn out.

    1. Hi Mike, yes I agree that this is a win for AC Milan, they bring the young in for the old. Higuaín has not been playing to will and they bring a young solid striker that is looking to make an immediate impact. I too am interested in how the rest of season goes. Maybe we can watch a game together Mike?
